This figurine represents Saint Anthony, the beloved Catholic saint venerated throughout Portugal. It reflects the deeply personal and creative world of Prazeres Côta, who continues her family’s artistic legacy by offering her unique interpretation of Saint Anthony.
The works of Prazeres Côta, like those of her mother Júlia, are rooted in rural life in Minho. They echo its iconic figures, rich traditions, and a blend of religious devotion and ancestral mythologies.
Why I love it

More informations?
The Côta family is widely regarded as the most iconic and charismatic representative of figurative folk art in Barcelos and the Minho region of northern Portugal.
Today, Prazeres—one of Júlia Côta’s daughters—passionately continues the family tradition begun by her great-grandfather, João Domingos Côta da Rocha, the creator of the legendary Galo de Barcelos, now a national symbol of Portugal.
Prazeres gained public attention at the 2018 Feira de Barcelos, where she was named “Artisan Revelation of the Year.” She is now recognized as a rising talent in Portuguese folk art. The Pottery Museum pays tribute to her in the exhibition "Geração Côta", featuring pieces from her own and private collections.
