Sculpted in a crawling position, this large ceramic lizard features a slightly arched body and outstretched legs, giving the impression that it's moving along the wall. The back of the lizard is designed with a flat surface and two holes, making it easy to mount securely.
Its design is characteristic of the renowned ceramic style from Caldas da Rainha, most notably associated with the famous artist Bordallo Pinheiro. The craftsmanship is of exceptional quality, with meticulous attention to detail. The colors are vibrant and lifelike, and the glaze is evenly applied, resulting in a brilliant, glossy finish.

This piece comes from a small workshop located between Caldas da Rainha and Obidos in the centre-west of Portugal, in the province of Estremadura.
The moulds used there have been handed down from generation to generation and the owner of the workshop now uses his grandfather's moulds. All parts are made entirely by hand.
