The LBV (Late Bottled Vintage) Port is a distinctive style created from a selection of powerful, high-quality red Ports from the same vintage. This blend is then aged for 4 to 6 years in large oak vats and casks.

The result is an intense ruby-colored Port with violet reflections. On the nose, it reveals notes of wild berries, spices, and figs. On the palate, it opens smoothly and finishes dry, with a surprisingly vibrant acidity.

This late-bottled vintage is one of the few Ports sealed with a natural cork, meaning the bottle can be opened now or aged in the bottle for many years to come.

This Late Bottled Vintage Port pairs beautifully with creamy cheeses, mild blue cheese, dark chocolate desserts, or pepper steak.

    More informations?

Dirk van der Niepoort describes LBV as “the most authentic of our Ports.” Like Vintage Port, Late Bottled Vintage comes from a single harvest. The grapes used for this LBV come from low-yield vineyards in the Cima Corgo subregion of the Douro Valley.

The wine ages in large oak vats and casks in the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia. By tradition, Niepoort bottles its LBV four years after harvest. Dirk aims “to bottle this Port as early as possible so that the freshness and fruit of the LBV fully reveal themselves at the moment of tasting.”
