Large natural terracotta mug handmade in Portugal using ancestral techniques, yet refined in its shape and free from unnecessary folkloric details. This large mug is perfect for morning tea, a big coffee, or fresh fruit juice.

Here, the terracotta is glazed, which prevents it from absorbing fats and liquids, making it healthier, easier to clean, and more resistant to stains.

The use of local clay from Alentejo and the entirely handmade production in a century-old workshop ensure the ethical and eco-friendly character of this piece.

Why I love it

  • Simple shape and minimalist design.
  • Glazing makes terracotta healthier and easier to use.
  • Handcrafted, ethical, and eco-friendly production.

When you choose a piece from this remarkable collection, you’ll have the privilege of owning a red clay item shaped by hand by José Alves, one of the last potters still using local terracotta.

This family pottery business, whose roots go back to his great-great-grandfather, remains in the same place. "I thought the continuity of our business was compromised, but one of my daughters came to give me a hand..." he recalls with emotion.

Red clay, known as "Olaria de barro vermelho," is particularly suited for making functional tableware and is especially ideal for preparing spectacular stews: "In a terracotta pot, meat becomes incredibly tender," says José Alves, showing both his expertise and love for his craft.
