Barcelos Rooster by Prazeres Côta 16''- Yellow is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
The Galo de Barcelos (Barcelos Rooster) became a national symbol of Portugal thanks to João Domingos Côta da Rocha.
Prazeres, his granddaughter, continues the family tradition with her own interpretation of the Galo de Barcelos — honoring its origins while adding her signature touch: bold colors and an exaggerated comb.
The works of Prazeres Côta, along with those of her mother Júlia, always reflect rural life in Minho, traditional icons, and influences drawn from religious or mythological beliefs.

More informations?
The Côta family is arguably the most emblematic and charismatic representative of figurative folk art in Barcelos and the Minho region of northern Portugal.
Today, Prazeres — one of Júlia Côta’s daughters — passionately carries on the family legacy begun by her great-grandfather João Domingos Côta da Rocha, creator of the legendary Galo de Barcelos, now a beloved Portuguese symbol.
Prazeres was introduced to the public at the Feira de Barcelos in 2018, where she was honored as “New Artist of the Year.” She is now recognized as a rising figure in Portuguese folk art. The Pottery Museum pays tribute to her with the exhibition "Geração Côta", showcasing several of her works from private and public collections.
