Fresh mussels from the Atlantic coast canned in an escabeche sauce made of sunflower oil, wine vinegar, garlic, bay leaf and spices. This preserve is perfect to be served in petiscos (Portuguese tapas) but can also be integrated in a paella or a fish dish.
The can is prepared by hand in Matosinhos, near Porto, and then packed in a cardboard box with a deliciously old-fashioned and very Portuguese design. The guarantee of a great culinary experience!
Why I love it
- Fresh mussels immediately canned.
- A carefully hand-prepared can.
- A packaging that contributes to the charm of the product.
Testimonial
"They’re vinegar-y and spiced, and tender but not mushy. I like to serve them as a party snack either alongside a bowl of potato chips, or a good baguette with homemade aioli. They’ve won over even the most timid tinned fish sceptic in my household. I’ve had an impossible time finding a reliable source for this particular delicacy in NYC. Yes, I could make my own, but I like having them ready and on hand at all times for when I have surprise guests, or need to make an easy dinner (throw the whole tin in pasta with some greens!). Last week, I ordered a large stash from Luisa Paixão, where you can find a treasure trove of gorgeous tinned fishes." Caroline finds it Blog

Ati Manel is the name of the grandfather of the entrepreneur who relaunched this fabulous brand of preserves born at the beginning of the 20th century, near Figueira de Foz, between Porto and Lisbon.
It is this heritage that dictates the company's decisions today: the demand for quality ingredients and the search for the best production conditions to preserve them. The design of the packaging was born from old graphic boards found in the grandfather's house.
